In Hawai`i, the Spam Musubi is very popular.
Here is one way to make it.
1. Prepare a sauce. This can be a teriyaki sauce, or one cup of soy sauce with one cup of sugar.
2. Cut the spam into little rectangles. You should be able to cut 9-10 slices without waste.
3. Put the spam into the sauce. Especially with teriyaki sauce, the longer it stays in the sauce (marinating) the better the taste will be.
Here is an optional step: you can fry some eggs to add to the spam musubi.
Mix eggs into a bowl.
Fry it in a pan.
4. Fry the spam in a frying pan. Be careful not to burn to the sauce.
5. Prepare some seaweed laver.
6. Put rice on the laver.
Here we are using a special "spam musubi" maker. It is sold everywhere in Hawai`i, but in other places, you could probably order it online. If you are lacking a "spam musubi maker" then you can use a square or rectangle tupperware, and press the rice into rectangle blocks, then put it on the laver.
7. You can sprinkle FURIKAKE (rice topping) or add the fried egg here.
8. Place the spam on top.
9. Press the spam into the rice, then fold the laver around the spam and rice.
Or, you can add more rice, then press it, then fold the laver around it.
Either way, it tastes great!
